Professional Developers – We want you!

SC Codes mentors live in communities across the state and help provide in-person support to help South Carolinians learn to code and join the industry.

Interested in becoming a mentor? Let us know here.

What are the benefits of mentorship?

Serving as a mentor for SC Codes has tons of benefits. Here are a few:

    • You’ll directly help grow the South Carolina tech community.
    • You’ll strengthen your own skills as you help students solve problems and learn new concepts.
    • You’ll meet other programmers, employers, and cool people.
    • You’ll get some swag and be invited to be part of events throughout the state.
    • You’ll know you’re doing good and giving back in a meaningful way.

    What do mentors do?

As a mentor you will be asked to:

    • Become familiar with the SC Codes curriculum
    • Help out at in-person student group meetings with partner organizations in your local community (when available!)
    • Provide 1-on-1 mentorship, coaching, and encouragement for students virtually via chat, video calls, and our online community
    • Adhere to the SC Codes Code of Conduct

Would I make a good mentor?

Great mentors come in all shapes and sizes. If you have experience as a programmer and you care about helping others who are working toward learning to code, we want to hear from you! It doesn’t matter where you work, whether you have official-looking degrees or certificates, or whether you’re just an enthusiast – we’d love to talk about how you can help.
