A FUND TO SUPPORT SYSTEMIC CHANGE

Build Carolina is committed to addressing issues in the technology talent ecosystem. Systemic change is hard, but imperative if we are to be prepared for a future that is reliant upon technology.

In our work, we’ve identified that there is a lack of connection, community, continuous learning and networking among people within the tech talent ecosystem. The tech training programs we do have aren’t enough – we need:

  • more funding to expand these programs and to ensure they are equitable, inclusive and innovative
  • a landscape assessment/exploratory research to understand the scope of the need so that we can target our approach to address that need (taking the time to understand the issue before launching a program is part of our commitment to being a good steward of the dollars entrusted to us)
  • to understand the gaps in the tech workforce in South Carolina (gender, racial, demographic representation).

We are working to establish a fund to begin addressing some of these issues.

SC Codes and Build Carolina have partnered with The Harbor Entrepreneur Center and JRS Coding School to establish a scholarship fund for South Carolina residents interested in entering the field of technology. Scholarships to train South Carolina residents for entry-level software coding education and training programs. We are also launching a technology ecosystem equity and innovation fund to address these issues at the systemic level.
